Excellent Damian - this hustle culture is creating so much friction and stress on people that they dont know where to turn when it all implodes and they fail like abject failures....the ability to pace oneself is a skill people need to relearn because ultimately, the quality and quantity of work they produce would outstrip anything your hustle self can produce. I was leaving a comment and something happened. Just the logistics of preparing a song to get to the point of release; I think I’ve been instinctively following your “Wolverine” plan of frequent rest/recover (number search puzzles are great when your brain is on low sugar, high function).
I’m a songwriter that needs to develop the additional skills of arranging what I write and then recording the result. I’ve been a songwriter since performing my first efforts in public in 1969. Many miles and performances later I am waking up to the difference a good/great arrangement makes by experimenting with my favorite cover songs ( Ripple, Summertime (Gershwin), City of New Orleans…), then looking at my own writing and imagining changes. Along the way, I spent 15 years shuttling between San Francisco, Nashville and NYC, with time spent along the way trying to cure my stage fright with regional acting roles( learning to ‘take off’ a character like its costume. So the present finds me with Logic Pro, a TASCAM 12, learning which microphones to start with, and Rikky Rooksby books to guide the rowboat. So I appreciate having someone to listen to me vent when necessary, and correct my course when it’s obvious to the observer that some change is necessary for a completion of project before going on. I haven’t even BEGUN to hustle..That’ll be the step that comes next, I guess. Thanks for being here Damian, sometimes I feel like I’ve got one foot nailed to the floor..back over the same territory.
Can I just say that it is so refreshing to see how much earlier these type of conversations are being had. As a Growth Architect I look at this from the matrix illusion promise that there will be a 'there.' If you only do all of those things long enough there will be a point where this is all worth it. And then you realize it's a lie. There is no there. Or a very broken there with broken relationships, being alone, sick and worn out. There is only here. You share this, tell everyone because it is the truth. Life is series of moments. Collect as many as you can.
